About me

My name is Ragnar Brynjúlfsson. I was born on the 16th of march 1974 in Reykjavik, Iceland, where I lived for the first few years of my life. At the tender age of 5, I moved with my parents to Bergen, Norway. We lived there for 4 great years, my parents, sister and I. When it was time to return to Iceland, I remember my sister cried.

The next few years were uneventful. I finished primary school with style, even got invited to a Rotary Club meeting for my nice behavior and good grades. Men in suits have always scared me, so I came out of it determined to become a less enthusiastic student. I began concentrating more on the arts.

After junior high, in the middle of the Gulf War I found myself on a plane headed for New Zealand. I spent a wonderful year there as an exchange student, choosing only subjects at school that I enjoyed, like drama, painting, media studies etc. I still miss the Kiwis and plan to return some day.

Returning to Iceland I studied at the Women's School of Reykjavik. It wasn't a women's only school, had been so some 12 years earlier, but was now just and ordinary school (with a slight majority of girls). I spent most of my time there on the school theatre stage, in the school dark room, painting pictures on the school walls or at home animating, painting or programming, and at night I role-played. I was determined to graduate, and at the same time make the best of it. School bored me.

After finishing school, I worked in a library for a year, while searching the world map for animation schools. As it turned out, I found one in Volda, Norway, which would be my home for the next two years.

Studying in Volda was great. We were given a lot of freedom to pursue our work, which suited me just fine. Finally I was studying something I enjoyed, something that interested me. I worked my ass off in Volda, and enjoyed it. During this time I came out to my parents, a scary thing I probably should have done years before.

After Volda, I moved to Oslo. Originally to start a studio with a friend of mine, but eventually wound up working as an animator on the Norwegian TV series (Two Waster Wankers, and later on a feature film pre-project for children using two of Norway's favorite animated personalities Solan and Ludvig.

Currently I'm working on a feature film starring the characters from the Two Wasted Wankers series. The film is titled "Free Jimmy" and will premiere in 2006. A great project I love working on (even though it has taken ages), with drug addicted elephants, militant animal rights activists and violent Nordic hunters. My job there is doing character setup and animation in Maya.
